How to make a Wi-Fi QR code and a Google review QR code for your business

Two small QR codes save a business a lot of repeat questions: one that lets guests join your Wi-Fi without typing the password, and one that takes customers straight to your Google review page. Here's how to make both, with or without an app.

Make a Wi-Fi QR code

  1. Use a guest network if you can. Most routers let you set up a separate guest Wi-Fi. Share that rather than the network your business devices use, so you can change its password without disrupting anything else.
  2. Note the exact details. You need the network name exactly as it appears, including capitals and spaces, the password, and the security type, which is usually WPA2 or WPA3.
  3. Create the code. On iPhone with iOS 18 or later, open the Passwords app, tap Wi-Fi, choose your network and tap Show Network QR Code. Or use a QR app such as QR Studio: choose Wi-Fi and enter the network name and password.
  4. Test, then print. Scan the code with a different phone before you print it. On iPhone, point the Camera at it and tap the banner to join. Print it big enough to scan from a table or counter, with the network name written underneath for anyone who prefers to type.

What's inside a Wi-Fi QR code

A Wi-Fi QR code is just text in a standard format, for example WIFI:T:WPA;S:CafeGuest;P:yourpassword;;. Phones read the network name, password and security type and offer to join. Anyone who scans the code can read the password, so treat a printed code like a printed password.

Make a Google review QR code

  1. Get your review link. Sign in to your Google Business Profile (search for your business on Google or Google Maps while signed in) and look for the option to ask for reviews. Copy the link it gives you.
  2. Turn the link into a QR code. Any QR maker that creates website codes will work. QR Studio has a Google review option that also makes a printable review sign.
  3. Test it. Scan the code and check that it opens your review page, not your website or a search result.
  4. Put it where customers wait. At the counter, on the table, on a receipt or at the bottom of an invoice.

A few rules worth knowing

Why use QR Studio

Questions

Can iPhone make a Wi-Fi QR code without an app?

Yes, on iOS 18 and later. In the Passwords app, tap Wi-Fi, choose a network and tap Show Network QR Code.

Is it safe to put my Wi-Fi password in a QR code?

Anyone who scans the code can see the password. Share a guest network, and if you change its password, make and print a new code.

Can I change where a QR code points later?

No. A QR code's destination is fixed when it is created, so to point somewhere new you create a new code.

Does QR Studio need the internet?

No. Scanning and creating work offline. Opening a link or sharing to another app may use the internet.
